Audrey’s work focuses on simple ‘slices of life’ – simple moments into narratives by complicating them in an illustrated or graphic way. In doing so she emphasizes the simplicity of daily acts and/or events and how they represent a shared experience and relate to the South African context.
She also tries to spark viewer’s imagination by creating works that offer and open stories. Although she says she cannot control the viewer’s perception, the works are visual pieces which they can weave together in their own imagination and based on their personal experiences. She uses different techniques aimed at inspiring the viewer not just to accept what they see, but rather to linger, consider, wonder and get curious about her work.
